2022 WR250R Rally
Riders looking to cross the Simpson Desert in their trusty WR250Rs had to go through a treacherous stretch of sand during the WR250R 2022 Race held in and around Wauchope this week, a fantastic place. to enjoy the full challenge.
The stretch of sandy trail just south of Point Plomer is quite short – but deep and soft enough to stop a few in their path.
Not Steve Parish, a retired software developer from Newcastle: “I don’t have much experience with sand and am looking forward to seeing how I go because I’ve always wanted to walk in the Simpson Desert,” he explained. After passing the short but sweet road, Steve was given the confidence to start planning the big trip.
Sparkling Sutherland Cam Brown was also inspired to join Simpson Crossing, after watching Grant Denyer and his mate Adrian traverse 500 kilometers of rolling dunes on WR250Rs. “I have crossed my path. It’s not pretty but I got the job done,” he explained.
A gap in wet weather means 35 people take part in the sixth annual rally for the small-bore WR250R capable of enjoying basic rain or shine.
The RideADV crew spent two days of adventure riding Nirvana with several select 270 km GPS-guided loop rides out of Wauchope.
Trails feature everything from zigzag runways to forest double tracks as they cycle past the picturesque Tapin Tops and Blago Bluff – a great terrain option that helps adventure bike owners Save the hit come back for more.
However, the WR250R Rally isn’t just about primo trails. Steve Parish is on his fourth WR250R track and explains: “What I really like is the repeat offenders you get to meet. They start out as strangers and over time you get to go with them and get to know them, which is good.”
