2022 VW ID.4 price hike $795, with range and charging boost

In December 2021, Volkswagen announces a server Online update for ID.4 electricity intersection in Europe. Sooner than we expected, the automaker has said some of those tweaks are coming to the ID.4 2022 for the US market. The least expected change is a $765 price increase for both the Pro and Pro S versions. This brings the starting price up to $41,955 for the 201hp rear-wheel-drive Pro after a $1,195 destination charge but before any offer, $45,635 for the Pro AWD. The 295hp rear-wheel drive Pro S version now starts at $46,455, adding AWD that figure goes up to $50,135. Buyers may still need to shop around to get those prices; ID.4 is still in such high demand that there are agency Add market correction up to $10,000.

The most anticipated upgrade will have more scope, though VW didn’t specify how much further the new ID.4 would go. All we know is that VW says 2022 CUV expected to be best within the EPA-certified 240 to 260-mile range of ID 2021.4. Getting back down the road at that end of range won’t take long either, the impending OTA update will lift the built-in charger’s capacity from 125 kW to 135 kW. Another OTA update adds auto-parking to e-parking brakeand the new Plug & Charge connectivity will make the use of Electrify America fast-charging stations more convenient by eliminating the need for a physical card.

Later this year, around September or October, Volkswagen will begin building ID.4 for the US market in 2023 at the automaker’s Chattanooga, TN plant instead of importing vehicles from Germany. According to VW USA CEO Scott Keogh, the only significant changes that come with the transfer are a the battery package from SKI instead of LG, and the center console is tweaked for a more “American” style. We can’t help but think this has to do with cup holders and preferences, the main point of contention between German automakers and American consumers. It’s hard to order a couple of Biggie combo meals between the front seats of the ID.4 right now.

The more distant future will see the introduction of a cheaper model with a small battery pack, starting at around $35,000 before deals. It’s unclear how much smaller that package will be when it hits the market; Internationally, VW offers 45 and 58 kWh packages across the ID range.
