While the pivotal season is still on the books, the FedEx Cup Playoffs come to an end on a Sunday when the 2022 Tour Championship is set to distribute a colossal $18 million prize pool and plenty of riches. There’s another for the top golfers on the PGA Tour. Beyond the money at stake are countless storylines to follow during a pivotal moment in the sport’s history.

Scottie Scheffler is aiming to become the first golfer to win five times on the PGA Tour since Justin Thomas in 2017, and he’s working towards that by completing the richest season in golf history. Scheffler had a perfect start to the top, shooting 9 under through the first 36 holes, though his advantage was dashed when he took a one-stroke lead on his final day at the Golf Club. East Lake. However, Scheffler had an extremely hot start to Sunday, scoring birdies on four of the last six holes of the third round to secure a six-stroke advantage into the final round.

Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele failed again, after 63rd with a third inning of 70 when he failed to score a birdie on his penultimate nine. Not only did Schauffele fall significantly behind Scheffler, the third goal in round 63 propelled Rory McIlroy to second place.

Surprisingly, Scheffler struggled to start the fourth round, and suddenly, the Tour championship was on. Schauffele, McIlroy and Sungjae Im are the closest to replacing Scheffler at the top of the leaderboard as the FedEx Cup Knockout Qualifier draws to a close.

While attending the FedEx Cup Playoffs can be exciting and memorable, just watching a high-stakes golf game is a wonderful thing. CBSSports.com is excited to provide you with full coverage of the Tour Championship all week.
