2022 LIV Golf in Miami

The 2022 LIV Golf Teams Championship in Miami was held Friday at the Trump National Doral. With singles and quarterfinals, the bottom eight teams from the regular season standings pitted against each other in a new format in the final of LIV Golf’s eight events of the inaugural season.

With the top four teams looking for and bye into the semi-finals, Friday’s quarter-final was highlighted by a singles match between Phil Mickelson of the Hy Flyers and Cameron Smith of Punch GC. The two major champions fought back and forth for most of the afternoon as Mickelson used a bit of game skill, playing the notoriously slow Smith quickly around the Trump National Doral.

While Mickelson and Smith’s showdown went the distance, with the Australian winning and scoring a nasty win over the higher-seeded Hy Flyers, the showdown between Harold Varner III and Brooks Koepka was over. finished in a flash. Despite winning at LIV Golf Jeddah, the four-time major champion was no match for Varner as the East Carolina product had seven birdies and won 4 and 3. Unfortunately for Varner, teammates His was of little help. Peter Uihlein knocked out James Piot 5 and 3, and the four-man match was lost to Koepka’s Smash GC, eventually sending them into the semifinals.

Ian Poulter’s Majesticks and Martin Kaymer-less Cleeks GC will also be competing tomorrow. The Majesticks put it in Iron Heads early and often none of their three games reached hole 17. The competition has now entered the semi-finals as the 4 Aces, Crushers, Fireballs and Stinger GC will debut their Team LIV Golf Championship. With just one more day of competition left, the teams will need to keep getting together ahead of the Sunday stroke section of the event.
