2022 G01 BMW X3 sDrive20i facelift in Malaysia – full showroom; M Sport exterior, new interior set; fr RM297k
The new upgraded BMW X3 G01 was launched in early February this year and is offered in three variants, namely sDrive20i, xDrive30i and xDrive30e, the last marks the first time a plug-in hybrid version of the X3 has been introduced in Malaysia. All three variants of the X3 are now locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia and come with the standard M Sport package.
In this showroom we focused only on the sDrive20i M Sport variant, and the base model noticed some significant changes inside and out compared to the previous entry-level variant of the X3, which is sDrive20i xLine launching in April 2021. The most obvious changes are in the exterior, as the base variant now gets the M Sport kit with sportier and redesigned front and rear bumpers.
Other modifications involve the X3’s adaptive LED headlights, which are now 10mm thinner, and sporty new daytime running lights. The dual elements that make up the kidney grille are also slightly larger and are combined in a single frame that integrates the front camera. Unlike before, all three variants of the X3 facelift now do not come with front fog lights.
As you can see in the photos, the facelift brings drastic changes to the rear appearance of the X3. In addition to the hexagonal exhaust tips, the taillights now have a patterned pincer outline design for a more defined look.
In sDrive20i M Sport guise, the X3 is fitted with 19-inch style 887 M light-alloy wheels wrapped in 245/50 Bridgestone Alenza tires. You don’t get M Sport brakes with blue calipers like the pricier xDrive30i, but you do get M Sport suspension, albeit without adaptive damping. Standard features also include Comfort Access as well as a hands-free powered tailgate.
Moving inside, the design changes related to the air conditioning vents and gearshift console, mimic those of recent BMW models. Additionally, while the M Sport’s steering wheel design has remained unchanged, the layout of the buttons on the spokes has been revised.
In front of the driver is BMW’s Live Cockpit Plus system with a 5.1-inch multi-information display like in Original 218i Gran Coupe before Update 2022. This combines with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, which is larger than the previous 8.8-inch display, and both screens are powered by BMW Operating System 7.
Standard features include three USB-C and one USB-A charging ports, three-zone climate control, a HiFi speaker sound system, automatic headlights and wipers, and auto-hold brakes. The Vernasca leather in Mocha you see here is only available with Alpine White or Carbon Black exteriors. Black leather seats with blue stitching are also available in similar colors as well as Brooklyn gray and Phytonic blue.
In terms of driver assistance, the sDrive20i comes with a Driver Assistance package with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert with brake intervention. It also has cruise control and a Park Assist package with Reverse Assist.
Under the bonnet is the same 2.0-liter B48 turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the xDrive30i, although in the sDrive20i the mill produces 184 hp (181 hp) from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and -300 Nm of torque from 1,350 to 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels. The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 8.2 seconds, and you’ll hit a top speed of 215 km/h.
With sales and service tax (SST), the X3 sDrive20i M Sport retails for RM296,950 on the go without insurance, which includes a standard two-year warranty. The addition of an extended warranty (five years, unlimited kilometers) and a service pack (five years, 100,000 km) brings the asking price to RM315,800.
