With everything back to normal after the pandemic lockdowns, the 2022 Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC) kicked off with the first round in Buriram, Thailand. After the race weekend, Zaqhwan Zaidi of Honda Asia-Dream Racing rose to the top of the Asian Superbike riders rankings (ASB1000) after winning Race 1 and finishing second in Race 2 .
Zaqhwan faced a tough challenge from Yamaha Thailand team Apiwath Wongthananon and Anupab Sarmoon, who finished second and third in the ARRC ASB1000 championship, respectively. As for the Malaysian team, Adam Norrodin, driving the OneXOX BMW TKKR S1000RR, is in sixth place while teammate Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman is languishing in tenth place behind a DNF in Race 1.
Meanwhile, Kasma Danial Kasmayudin of Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN came in 11th place in the ASB1000. For the Supersport 600 category, Malaysian drivers Mohd Helmi Azman of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team and Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin, younger brother of Adam Norrodin, took the top two places in the SS600 rider’s championship while Khairul Idham Pawi or SuperKIP in sixth place after the weekend of two races.
Malaysia’s representation in the ARRC SS600 category was completed by Muhammad Izham Ikmal of One XOX TKKR Racing and Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team. In the Underbone (UB150) category, Cardinals’ Ahmad Afif Amran easily won his second race of the weekend after starting in fourth on the grid, after finishing in seventh. disappointing in Race 1.
This puts Afif second in the UB150 standings, just two points behind Indonesian Wahyu Aji Trilaksana, rider for OneXOX TKKR Racing. Following Afif is fellow Malaysian Mohamad Izzat Zaidi Mohammad Salehan of Pitsbike JRT OneWay, who is four points behind Afif in third place.
