Court filings this week show the state’s Division of Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement is investigating allegations that an Edina man and his brother collected fees to play slot machines on behalf of others. watch TikTok, Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. State law prohibits placing bets on behalf of others. No one has been charged so far.
An affidavit from a search warrant alleging the Edina man used cash application to collect an initial registration fee of $5.99 as well as $25 for every $100 deposited to wager. Then he goes live as he and sometimes his brother play slot machines. Court records show the two ran operations at the Mystic Lake Casino on Front Lake and the Treasure Island Resort & Casino just outside the Red Wing. One of their sessions ended just before dawn on Thursday.
The Edina man has 165,000 followers around the world. Featured videos hosted on him TikTok The site displays a range of cash and slot machines rolling out jackpots, including a $15,000 hit in December.
Minnesota Gambling and Alcohol Enforcement Agency spokeswoman Nicole Roddy confirmed the investigation to the Star Tribune, saying the agency has not encountered such a case to date.
Officials from the American Gambling Association, which represents sportsbooks and casinos nationwide, said they had not heard of such a case so far. The association’s vice president of government relations, Alex Costello, said the plan allegedly violated the casino’s anti-money laundering protocols.
