It took me almost 9 years to realize this, but the secret to getting what you want on Valentine’s Day is to ask for it. That’s it.
I want to start normalizing asking what you want for your birthday, for Christmas, for Valentine’s Day. Kindness knows I’m not a mind reader — why should I expect my husband to read my mind? So there’s no need for subtle mentions or casual conversational hints anymore. This year, I’m sending him an email with links to some of the things I really want for Valentine’s Day (and sending a link to this post for good measure).
