13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Feels Made for Switch

Once upon a time, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was supposed to appear on the PlayStation Vita. Except it’s not. Atlus and Vanillaware canceled it in 2018. But now, it seems the wrong thing is right. Everything about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim makes it seem like a great fit on handheld and the Switch version basically makes it. dream come true. The result is a perfect portal.

The first thing someone might worry about is how 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Will review on Switch. After all, Vanillaware games are known for their complexity. These are always lavish titles. The wallpaper is accurate and lifelike. You can see the small folds and highlights on the character’s outfit. Food looks more appetizing in real life. I wish my hair could be as beautiful as Momohime’s. PS4 is capable of higher resolutions. Also, you’re playing on a bigger screen all the time. But the adventure is just as great on the Switch.

Specifically, I have experienced 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on the Switch OLED model and is played exclusively when not docked. I’d say I appreciate the artwork and character design more. Everything is clear. Vivid colors. I still have access to my standard launch Switch model, and as one might expect, it looks very special there. The fidelity remains in handheld or desktop mode. However, I would recommend the former over the latter. This is a game that requires someone to hold onto it and take in every element. When I tried the desktop mode, it didn’t feel appealing. Let’s pretend this is the version of Vita we never had. Hold it in your hand.

Talking about how Switch OLED helps when playing, I really appreciate how it supports 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rimof sound. This model uses a closed speaker, which means it can still deliver sound even if it takes up a small amount of space. Turning up the volume and messing with the settings means the dubbing can really float. Given the depth of the story, it really helps. I don’t feel like I need to use headphones to appreciate it all. In the past, I used to use them with visual novels on a standard Switch or Vita. Yes, some people might want that extra security to make things perfect. But I think most people will be fine without it. Especially if they are also playing on Switch OLED.

I’ll say it when you actually go in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on the Switch, you may have noticed something also appearing in the PS4 version. Some RTS missions with lots of enemies and bullets will slow things down. For example, if you let Natsuno Minami use Rocket Rain, you will feel each of those bullets for one minute. That is to be expected. After all, when there are a lot of rockets and things happen, it takes a while.

But really, with the Switch port of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim it feels like the game is what it is meant to be. this is a 10/10 games on PS4, and now it’s a perfect game on Nintendo’s newest console. We always have to have a handheld version of the title. Just prioritizing development and making sure Vanillaware did what it does best meant we had to wait for it a little longer. And believe me, it’s well worth the wait.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim coming to Nintendo Switch on April 12, 2022 in North America and Europe. It will appear in Japan on April 14, 2022.
