120 dogs rescued from Korea’s meat trade injured or killed in catastrophic fire

Jindo Love Rescue in Korea uses its funds to save dogs from the meat trade and send them to loving shelters. Of the 120 dogs in their care, some are preparing to fly home to their permanent families. However, a sudden outbreak of fire ruined the happy ending for the dogs.

The organization faced a fire at their foster center, leaving the dogs dead, fleeing, or severely injured. Volunteers called it “a worst nightmare situation for anyone involved in the rescue.” But they are still doing everything they can to help survivors and rebuild the foster home.

A nightmare in real life

At least 20 dogs at Jindo Love Rescue died in the fire, and many of them fled. Currently, only 60 surviving dogs are counted. One of the dogs that passed away was Pobee, who was scheduled to fly to his adopters in the United States that day. Some of the other victims also have flights coming up that they will never take now.

A temporary local murder shelter housed most of the survivors but didn’t have enough space to hold them for long. Now, foster homes and a dog training facility have increased care for some dogs.

“We were impressed with the resilience of these dogs. Many people wouldn’t eat at a murder shelter but bringing them into our home environment or boarding facility made all the difference. These less stressful environments are important to help them heal and rest,” Jindo Love Rescue wrote on Facebook.

Rescuers are searching for missing dogs with the help of drones. Sadly, some of the dogs found did not survive, but the volunteers hope that some are still there. Most of these dogs were saved from the dog meat trade, so they’ve been through a lot. They don’t deserve more tragedies like this.

Repair damage

Dogs cannot stay in their makeshift homes forever. The rescue is determined to rebuild their facility, but will cost at least $150,000 to repair the damage. On top of that, they still need funding to take care of the supplies and give the dog veterinary care. Many dogs were burned in the fire and are receiving extensive medical treatment.

Patti Kim, president of Jindo Love Rescue, said: “We are heartbroken and desperately searching for the survivors who have been through so much in their lives. “We are fortunate to have such amazing supporters who are ready to participate, but we have a long way to go to take care of the survivors and rebuild.”

The cause of the fire is unknown, but damage has been repaired. Jindo Love Rescue is begging for donations during these difficult times. their partner, Animal protectionis helping them rebuild their property so both organizations can continue to rescue dogs from the horrific meat trade.
