Star Ocean The Divine Force is coming to PS5 and PS4 soon! This action-packed sci-fi RPG brings a bold new vision to the beloved RPG series, with a powerful story, innovative delivery mechanics, and just… chef’s kiss.

This is the sixth main entry in the Star Ocean series…
You’ve probably played the game Star Ocean before – or at least heard of it. The series has been around since 1996 and has garnered many fans thanks to its distinct sci-fi pitfalls. While many RPGs lean towards the fantasy genre, the Star Ocean series wholeheartedly embraces space opera – think spaceships, interplanetary travel, cutting-edge technology and the like. Even now it feels very unique in the genre.
Star Ocean The Divine Force is the sixth main title in the series and packs in exciting new ideas, including unparalleled freedom of movement and lightning-fast combat.
… But it’s completely independent
Similar to other RPG series like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, each entry in the Star Ocean series operates as a standalone adventure. No need to play through previous games to find out what’s going on – the entire story from start to finish is in the game. Of course, if you were a fan of the previous games, you might recognize a reference or two…
It’s an epic adventure that combines science fiction and fantasy
The adventure begins when the starship captain Raymond Lawrence crashes on the planet Aster IV. This dangerous world is like stepping into a long forgotten past for the young astronaut – people still live in castles, wearing armor, and kingdoms go to war with each other. Joining forces with a warrior princess named Laeticia, he sets out to search for the rest of his crew and leave the planet… unaware that he will soon find himself caught up in an adventure. Conflict threatens the entire universe.
Dual protagonist system returns from previous games
At the beginning of the adventure, you will be able to choose between two main characters: Raymond or Laeticia. This isn’t just an aesthetic decision – events unfold and the allies you can recruit will vary depending on who you play as.
You can play as Raymond…
Raymond is the captain of the merchant ship Ydas, operating under Lawrence Logistics – a company run by his family. He’s a friendly guy with big hair and a bigger heart. He can be brave and reckless, which often gets himself in trouble – but he will put himself in danger to protect his friends. He’s an likable main character.
… Or Laeticia
Laeticia is the Princess of the Kingdom of Aucerius: a vast territory located on the underdeveloped planet Aster IV. She is a knight and is highly skilled with dual swords, which makes her greatly admired by everyone. Laeticia is extremely curious and meeting Raymond has opened her up to a world bigger than she knew… but most of all, she loves her kingdom and will do anything she can. to protect it.
You have incredible freedom of movement
Early in the story, Raymond and Laeticia encounter a mysterious mechanical life form known as DUMA. It gives our heroes access to supernatural powers, including the ability to walk…well, almost anywhere. anywhere. With the touch of a button, characters can soar into the sky to rapidly scale cliffs or fly over buildings – the vast environment of Star Ocean The Divine Force is now yours to explore from anywhere. angle!

The Star Ocean series is known for its fast-paced combat, but The Divine Force takes things to a whole other level! You’ll have access to a party of up to four characters at a time, each equipped with an ever-expanding collection of skills and abilities. You can equip different commands for the buttons on your controller’s face, allowing you to access commands, layout combinations, use items, and more instantly.

DUMA doesn’t just familiarize you with the style – it completely transforms combat by giving you the ability to run around your opponents…or more precisely, fly around them. Your ‘Strike Pioneer’ power allows you to rush towards your enemies at breathtaking speed. Change your direction at the last moment to do a Blindside attack – you’ll hide behind your bewildered enemies and leave them completely defenseless. Yes, it’s super fun as it sounds!
But you can slow things down if you want
All of the above makes for an intense combat system, but if you’re the type of RPG fan who likes to think about their actions, you can use ‘Standby’ to freeze the action to You can instruct your allies, change targets, or just take a breather while you plan your strategy.
You can recruit many allies – and get to know them
As you play through Star Ocean The Divine Force, you will recruit many different allies, all with distinct personalities and fighting styles. They’re all playable, and you can switch between them seamlessly, both in and out of battle. Private action allows you to spend time with these eccentric individuals, explore unique character storylines, and even special endings – so it’s a good idea to get to know your team!
