10 great tips for filmmakers with Sony cameras

Cameras have grown in complexity over the years, and it’s difficult to use any body to its fullest. In this video, Caleb Pike walks you through 10 tips for filmmakers to get the most out of their Sony cameras.

When I started taking pictures – a few years ago, I’m not willing to share – it didn’t take me long to know absolutely every function and setting my camera had to offer. In fact, even changing the camera takes a little while to learn the new additions. Now, each camera is a step further along with technology and it can be difficult to learn all the functions let alone memorize them all.

Sony cameras are definitely a brand that there’s a lot I don’t know or have never used. Having one foot in both photography and another in video, often combined in a hybrid body, means there are settings for both. You never know what you might be missing and in this video Pike walks you through 10 tips he uses.

One thing he mentioned that I’ve seen newer photographers ignore in both photography and videography is the ability to use APS-C, crop sensor lenses on full frame bodies. . By taking Sony’s Clear Image Zoom and setting it to x1.3 (the crop factor of the APS-C sensor compared to full frame), you can use crop lenses with perfect utility. As Pike mentioned, you can get incredibly fast and sharp crop lenses for a fraction of the price of their full frame counterparts, so that could be a way to boost stock your lens.
