Like most, I keep denim close and close to my heart, and that’s especially true of jeans. From classic jeans to mom jeans and wide leg styles, my wardrobe is filled with stacks of folds all the balls and washing. But there’s still a style I haven’t dared to touch for years – tight jeans. I’m a pear-shaped girl, so my preferences are always skewed super high waist and with the legs as wide as possible to balance the proportions of the thighs. Skinny jeans have a reputation for being body-hugging so there’s really nothing to hide when it comes to areas you might want to conceal. Since I don’t like the attention on my thighs, it’s just for that reason that I haven’t touched my thighs since college.
However, my feelings began to change since becoming editor of Who What Wear; It became clear that our readers couldn’t get enough content about skinny jeans (nor did many of my colleagues), so gradually my previous disdain turned into a bit of curiosity. Can a wide-legged enthusiast really embrace the opposite extreme of the spectrum? My interest was stimulated. To test the waters of this unfamiliar territory, I decided to challenge myself and try them out for a week. Since my group messages couldn’t stop talking about Madewell jeans (and so did the Internet), I turned to the brand to try on a few of their best-selling curves.
