FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Vice President Harris is spearheading the Biden campaign’s effort to protest the Republican convention today, as President Biden is quarantined at home due to COVID.

And give open question on whether Biden should remain at the top of the Democratic ticket, Harris’ speech — in a stated that Democrats hope they can turn blue This fall — likely to attract more attention than usual.

To be clear, Biden and his campaign are saying that he not going anywhere. But some Democrats have said Harris would be the obvious choice for the party. if Biden drops out of the race.

“Our campaign is not running any scenario where President Biden is not the frontrunner. He is and will be the Democratic nominee,” campaign vice chairman Quentin Fulks told reporters in Milwaukee today, slightly irritated by the question.

The campaign is working hard to draw a contrast between Biden’s policies and the proposals of former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance — especially on the issue of reproductive rights.

Yesterday, Harris pledged another potential day for a debate with Vance, although the Trump campaign has said that internal debate within the Democratic Party Biden’s fate also raises questions about the vice presidential debate.

“We cannot finalize a date before their convention. Doing so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer or whomever Kamala Harris chooses as her running mate,” Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement.

The Governors of California, Illinois and Michigan are often cited as potential future Democratic candidates. And there have been some speculation that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper could be the vice presidential candidate if Harris is at the top of the list.
