LG Innotek, a unit of battery and electronics giant LG, has introduced a wireless battery management system (BMS) that it claims will increase EV range.
Introduced in February and first discovered by Charged electric car, the system is the first to combine wireless battery management with an 800-volt power architecture, LG Innotek claims. The company aims to put it into production by 2024.

LG Innotek claims a wireless setup eliminates a lot of physical hardware, such as wires and connectors, improving efficiency. This can save up to 198 pounds of vehicle weight and free up 10-15% of battery pack space, allowing for more flexible battery designs according to the company, which claims to have improved electric range up to 12 miles.
LG Innotek claims: Minimizing cables and connectors also eliminates potential points of failure and makes assembling packages less complicated, potentially allowing for a greater degree of automation in the process vehicle assembly. The company believes these attributes will soon lead automakers to switch to wireless battery management.

“According to industry sources, it is expected that major global auto companies will seriously adopt wireless BMS starting in 2024,” the company said.
General Motors was the first embraced the idea of a large-scale wireless BMS—for its Ultium EV platform—with a system from Visteon. That thing, GM said, which will make it easier for you to replace modules as the package ages, or to fit in a completely different cell/module without redesigning the entire package. GM has co-developed large format pocket cells with LG and has said that it is open to different cell formats.
