Wimbledon 2024 preview: Emma Raducanu, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and more to look out for

Twelve months ago, Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon experience included showing up to entertain her sponsors.

The 21-year-old Briton missed his home Grand Slam after undergoing surgery on both his wrist and ankle, but returned this year with a smile on his face after an encouraging run of form.

“Last year was really tough because you would have to go through the players’ tunnel, see your peers practicing, playing their matches,” said the 2021 US Open champion.

“Being on the other side was really painful. It wasn’t pleasant at all and I didn’t really watch any tennis.

“For me, being here this year is really special.”

Raducanu missed the French Open on clay to focus on staying fit and getting ready for the British grass-court season – and the move appears to have paid off.

Reached the semi-finals of Nottingham, followed by progress to the quarter-finals of Eastbourne, which included a victory over American world number five Jessica Pegula.

“I think I’m in a really good position,” said Raducanu, who competes against lucky Mexican loser Renata Zarazua on Monday.

“I did a lot of work at the end of the year to get back in shape and healthy. I’ve continued that work throughout the year.

“I feel my body is strong. There’s no doubt about it.”
