When was the last time Tottenham Hotspur won the title? How many times have Spurs won the silver cup?

Tottenham’s hunt for silverware has been well documented over the past decade as the club have become frequent title contenders in England and Europe.

While Spurs hibernated as a mid-range team for most of the 90s, Spurs broke through as a consistent top half club in the early 2000s and began to consistently challenge European positions. Europe started in 2010 with fourth place. Since then, Spurs have had a no worse record than seventh in the Premier League.

However, modern silverware has eluded Spurs as the club continue their search for a major title. Despite finishing sixth in the league at the turn of the year, Antonio Conte is still chasing Spurs this season, as the London side are still alive in the FA Cup.

However, being eliminated in the Carabao Cup semi-final at the hands of Chelsea left some wondering how long the wait would be:

When was the last time Tottenham won a title?

Spurs have won silver titles in the past, but that’s been a while. The most recent title won by the club was the League Cup in 2008 (the Carling Cup, later known as the Carabao Cup), beating Chelsea 2–1 in the final after extra time.

Goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate helped Spurs through that game, with the goal going into four minutes of extra time. Notable names in the Spurs squad for that game include Jermaine Jenas and Robbie Keane, with Ledley King as captain and England international Paul Robinson in goal. They have beaten the likes of Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, who have started for Chelsea.

In the final, Spurs took a 2-0 lead over Middlesbrough, Blackpool and Manchester City. They then overcame North London rivals Arsenal in the semi-finals. Spurs drew 1-1 at the Emirates before the decisive second leg, a 5-1 win taking them 6-2 on aggregate.

What trophies has Tottenham won?

Before winning the 2007-08 EFL Cup, Spurs had some underdog wins, but most of them came a while ago.

Tottenham won the FA Cup in 1991, beating Roy Keane and Nottingham Forest 2-1 on aggregate, and also in extra time. Terry Venables was in charge and picked Gary Lineker to start for Spurs, but the winner came from an own goal when Des Walker let the ball into his own net.
