12.30 Fairyhouse
JP McManus is arguably the scariest pun of all time. Well, he’s up there anyway, that’s for sure. McManus likes to raise his own horses and makes no secret of it. He did so throughout his adult life. He pumps huge amounts of money into the sport so that no one can grudge him a winner or two!
It is very interesting that one of his athletes at Fairyhouse today was very well supported this morning. I’ve been through every race of the day in the UK and Ireland, but it seems this is his only horse that has been well backed up to this day. The runner in question was called Fighting Fit and ran at 12:30 p.m., a competitive handicap chase.
Fighting Fit coached by Dempsey’s and has gone from 12-1 to 5-1 in various places. The highest price at the time of this writing is 7-1 with bet365, but I don’t know how long that will last. This horse has been beaten a total of 142 lengths in his last three starts but is now back with a handicap of just 10-4. If the handbrake is off, he will probably win!
It’s also worth keeping an eye on McManus’ other runner in the field, Weihnachts, who shortened a bit. When JP money drops in price, bookies get scared.
