Wellstar Health adds secure check-in through Epic



Atlanta-based Wellstar Health announced this week that it is deploying technology from Clear, the biometric security company known for enabling faster access at airports and entertainment venues to Streamline patient registration.

Clear’s HIPAA-compliant mobile check-in technology, successfully integrated with Epic electronic health records at a pilot site, provides Wellstar’s real-time identity verification capabilities, the company said. Health System can reduce friction in the waiting room.

Clear said in Tuesday’s announcement that Wellstar has co-developed the patient identification app integration, which will be available to other healthcare organizations that use Epic and are health systems first use it.

The company said that after a successful pilot with Clear’s verified global identity platform, Wellstar Health, one of the largest health care systems in the Peach State, will launch a seamless enrollment process share in the second half of 2024.

Wellstar patients who choose to use the platform with a single sign-on account will verify their identity in advance in writing. When they arrive for scheduled appointments, they check in by taking digital selfies at health system kiosks.

According to its CEO, Caryn Seidman Becker, Clear’s mission is to “replace the clipboard in healthcare” with new experiences powered by a patient’s interoperable health identity.

Clear has claimed that its identity verification technology is better for providers and patients because it reduces tedious registration by pre-filling information, reduces administrative burden, connects various health information and enhance security by minimizing social engineering risks.

Clear, which has more than 17 million members, provides digital identity proof and consumer verification for the airline and other industries.
