Zenith modernizes its Chronomaster Open collection with a new El Primero movement, a hesalite seconds counter, and a smaller case diameter.

Veteran collectors may remember Chronomaster Open’s Launched in 2003, featured a larger case and multi-aperture view in an earlier El Primero movement. The new watch, which is the highlight of Zenith’s Watches and Wonders 2022, is lighter in a number of ways when compared to its predecessor and the previous Chronomaster Open collection.

Now presented in a more wrist-friendly 39.5mm steel or rose gold case, the new Chronomaster Open reimagines the famous three-color Zenith Chronomaster layout but with some newly added elements.

Here, Zenith retains the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock (not present in the original Chronomaster Open), remaking it with a transparent hesalite crystal. The crystal’s transparency allows the viewer to see the purple silicon star-shaped escape wheel.

Additionally, Zenith has changed the shape of the dial opening, adding circular holes with beveled edges instead of the old version’s applied metal bezel with blue screws. The results show that the new El Primero 3604 has a more modern gray color.

Zenith wisely based the new caliber on the recently launched El Primero 3600 1/10 of the second automatic high-frequency caliber. The new design, which replaces the existing Chronomaster Open collection, is a great middle ground between Zenith’s Chronomaster Sport and its classic tinted Chronomaster Original.

With a new diameter (current collection models are 42mm), a cleaner dial and a clear 1/10 second display, the new Chronomaster Open fulfills all the updates needed for a true contemporary collection. the.

Price: $10,000 (steel strap) and $21,300 (rose gold strap).
