Volvo begins production of the EX90 EV in the US

Volvo confirmed Wednesday that production of the 2025 Volvo EX90 electric SUV for the US market is currently underway in Charleston, South Carolina.

Launched in November 2022, the EX90 was originally scheduled for first deliveries in early 2024, but it was delayed due to software issues. Volvo now plans to deliver the first cars to US customers in the second half of this year.

The EX90 is produced alongside the Volvo S60 sedan (available with gasoline and plug-in hybrid powertrains) at the South Carolina plant, which opened in 2018 as Volvo’s first manufacturing facility in the United States. . For an additional $5,000, Twin Motor Performance increases output to 496 horsepower and 671 lb-ft, and can accelerate to 60 mph in a Volvo-estimated time of 4.7 seconds.

Volvo has mentioned up to 300 miles of range from the 111 kWh battery pack, but there’s no official EPA confirmation yet. The automaker has also clarified that all EX90 models destined for the US market will include a heat pump and hardware for two-way charging. The highest DC fast charging speed is 250 kw, reaching 10-80% in about 30 minutes.
