Volkswagen Tayron: Tiguan Allspace replacement leaked in Chinese database

Is this the next generation? Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace? A new filing from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed what could be called Volkswagen Tayron in markets like Australia.

Images of the new SUV have appeared on a Chinese database, where the vehicle will be known as the Tayron L in the region.

Despite its different name, the Tayron L essentially looks like a stretched version of the new-generation Tiguan.

There are some minor styling differences relating to the bumper details and the placement of the rear badge – the Tayron L lettering runs just below the taillight bar rather than the lower part of the tailgate on the new Tiguan – but much of this is likely down to regional differences, as the Tayron L will be made in China for China.

However, it’s understandable that the Tayron L will be very similar to the global Tayron, the three-row companion to the latest Tiguan, which is quite similar to the current Tiguan Allspace.

This model will also form the basis for the US-market Tiguan, just like the current generation which is also based on the extended version.

We haven’t seen any images of the interior yet, but like the exterior, it’s likely to be closely related to the new Tiguan, with some minor changes likely to differentiate the two SUVs.

A larger touchscreen running next-generation infotainment software and a new digital instrument cluster are highlights of the Tiguan’s interior changes, as are an improved overall design and new details like customizable ambient lighting with inserts on the dashboard.

The Tayron will also use the newer MQB evo platform like the new Tiguan, bringing technological advances over the old MQB-based Tiguan Allspace such as better electrification capabilities.

This could include 48V mild hybrid technology and the potential for a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system with a driving range of around 100km.

Better driver assistance technologies from Volkswagen are expected to be rolled out.

Furthermore, the Tayron is expected to grow in size over most previous versions, which should free up more interior space for passengers and their luggage. There will be up to three rows of seats depending on the market.

In November, Volkswagen confirmed the Tayron name would be used for the Tiguan Allspace in markets including Europe and Australia, applying to the Chinese-market mid-size SUV produced under the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

It is believed that the global version of the 2025 Volkswagen Tayron will be unveiled at this year’s Paris motor show in October, before production begins in late 2024 or early in the new year.

The new SUV is expected to launch in Australia in the second half of 2025.

Previous reports have suggested the new Tayron will be built in Germany, unlike the current Tiguan Allspace which is assembled at VW Group’s Puebla plant in Mexico.

More details about the new Volkswagen Tayron will be revealed later this year. Stay tuned. Car expert for the latest information.
