Volkswagen Australia will welcome its first GTX electric performance car to Australia in the first half of 2024.
The ID.4 And ID.5 Volkswagen has confirmed both electric SUVs will launch with the more powerful GTX models in their range in the second quarter of next year.
Previously, the brand was expected to launch the ID.4 and ID.5 without the more powerful GTX options, but instead adding them a few months after launch.
The launch of the GTX product line will help increase the proportion of high-performance cars (R Line, GTI, GTX, R) sold by Volkswagen Australia to 25% by 2024.
Power in both GTX models comes from one 220kW Dual-motor electric powertrain and driving range are required in 479km from its 77kWh battery.
That power figure isn’t far from what’s offered in CHEAP Tiguanand the GTX model pack’s 470Nm of torque depends on what you get on the hottest Tiguan.

Also to Australia? ID.3 GTXan electric version that applies the hot hatch formula set forth by the Golf GTI.
Volkswagen has confirmed it will produce a smaller GTX, but has yet to reveal a production version.
That should appear in late 2024, along with a broader range of ID.3s. It was recently updated with a more upscale interior, fitted with new soft-touch materials and a larger infotainment screen.
Volkswagen has previously confirmed that it will offer simpler models than it currently has when its electric vehicle line launches.
“Each model would be much simpler than today’s portfolios,” said Mr. Szaniecki. “That’s totally fine, it’s appreciated by our customers because the choice is more intuitive, simpler and much faster.”
“Economically, it also makes sense because [customers] not lost in countless opportunities.”
