Volkswagen ID. Buzz 2025: Electric Kombi price in Australia revealed

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz The electric truck range has been detailed and priced ahead of its December launch – and it’s more affordable than originally expected.

The ID. Buzz passenger car is expected to start in the six figures, but the brand has announced that the short-wheelbase five-seater will start under $90,000 before on-road costs.

The business-ready ID. Buzz Cargo also costs less than $80,000 before shipping costs.

These prices position the base version of the ID. Buzz below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold, meaning customers will be able to take advantage of current Additional Benefit Tax (FBT) exemptions for electric vehicles (EVs).

The most affordable version of the ID. Buzz series will be available in Australia in December, and the top-end GTX version will launch in the first quarter of 2025.

The ID. Buzz Cargo will be offered in two- or three-seat configurations, while the short-wheelbase (SWB) ID. Buzz Pro will have five seats and the long-wheelbase versions will have seven seats.

And unlike the 150kW/310Nm ID. Buzz we tested in Europe last year, the models Australia will get see a big power increase.

All models except the GTX get a rear-mounted electric motor with 210kW of power and 550Nm of torque.

The GTX is upgraded to full-time four-wheel drive with two 250kW motors.

The brand says it has received more than 7,000 orders of interest for its electric van range and VW Australia commercial vehicle director Ryan Davies says that number is expected to increase following the price announcement.

“Many Australians have a deep emotional and historical connection to Volkswagen trucks and passenger cars,” Mr Davies said.

“We are excited to bring the highly anticipated BEV versions of these classic models.

“The first all-electric model from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles gives us the opportunity to offer families and fleets a long-awaited vehicle,” he said, calling the Cargo “a fleet manager’s friend” given upcoming NVES emissions targets.
