Vikings trade CB Booth to Cowboys for CB Wright

The Dallas Cowboys Football Team And Minnesota Vikings agreed to a trade on Friday to trade the out-of-season cornerback to their team.

The Cowboys will get a cornerback Andrew Booth Jr.42 pick of the 2022 draft, who has played just 11% of the Vikings’ defensive snaps over the past two seasons. The Vikings will take the cornerback position Nahshon Wright2021 third-round pick, played in just 22 games with three starts and one interception.

Wright is the fourth veteran cornerback the Vikings have acquired since training camp began as they try to stabilize a position group that has been affected by tragedy and injury. Rookie Khyree Jackson was killed last month in a car accident.. Potential starter Mekhi Blackmon have endured torn anterior cruciate ligament on the first day of camp, and the veteran Shaquill Griffin hasn’t practiced since straining his hamstring the next day. The Vikings also signed veteran cornerbacks Duke Shelley, Coby Francis And Fabian Moreau.

With Trevon Diggs Returning from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Wright has worked with the first team in training camp this summer, but he has been pushed by the rookie Caelen CarsonWith Diggs expected to step up his practice work as the regular season approaches and Carson making the most of his opportunity, Wright, who will become an unrestricted free agent after this season, has become irreplaceable.

The Cowboys were high on Booth during the 2022 recruiting process and hope a change of scenery and perhaps scheme under new coordinator Mike Zimmer, the former Vikings head coach, can help him develop. Booth had a long injury history during his college career at Clemson, suffering a torn meniscus during his rookie season that required surgery and limited him to just six games.

The Vikings hired defensive coordinator Brian Flores in 2023, and Booth never found a place in his plans. Despite injuries and uncertainty at the position this summer, Booth has mostly practiced with the Vikings’ third-team defense.

Last August, the Cowboys traded a disappointing 2021 second-round pick Kelvin Joseph arrive Miami Dolphins for the 2020 first round pick Noah Igbinoghene. Neither player had a lasting impact, although Igbinoghene scored his first goal for the Cowboys last season, from a successful tackle.
