Video captures hero dog’s mother saving Pit Bull from freezing swimming pool

How long will it take you to save your dog’s life? A Tennessee woman doesn’t even have to think twice when faced with that question. Jennie Tatum puts all fear and discomfort aside when her dog is in danger of death.

Tatum’s Pit Bull named Sid falls through the ice of a frozen pool, and Tatum rushes into action. She jumps in, breaks the ice, and drags Sid to safety. If she hadn’t acted quickly, poor Sid might not be alive today. Tatum is a hero to humans and dogs!

Playtime is wrong

Sid is running around outside with his dog brother Olaf. It’s all fun and games until Sid goes the wrong way. They ran into the snow-covered backyard, where the family’s roofless pool was covered in ice. Without thinking, Sid jumps towards the pool as Olaf chases him. Before anyone could react, Sid fell under the ice and didn’t come back.

Tatum saw the horrifying event from within, so she rushed towards the pool. Without hesitation, she jumped into the pool where Sid had fallen. She broke the surrounding ice, but the dog was nowhere to be found.

“It’s pure adrenaline. I don’t think about getting cold,” said Tatum.

When Tatum couldn’t find the 50-pound dog, she jumped out of the pool and ran to the other side to get a better look. From there, she could see Sid’s silhouette beneath the ice. She hurried back to him, pull him out of the pool, and carried it into the warm house. As it turned out, her quick thinking could have saved his life.

A dramatic rescue

Fortunately for Tatum, her neighbor is a veterinarian. Tennessee was not used to this much snow, so many roads were closed. So if vet April Smith can’t help, the chances of Sid getting urgent care are very low.

Sid has been underwater for at least 60 seconds. His lips and tongue are unusually blue. He was barely conscious when he was pulled out, so Smith had to administer an emergency injection. She also said that although Sid may have held his breath at first, he still desperately needs oxygen to heal. In this event, every second counts and Tatum saved his life.

“I don’t think this dog got another minute based on his symptoms,” Smith said.

Sid is a lucky dog. It has survived a situation many other dogs have not, and all thanks to its faithful mother. Now, Sid has made a full recovery and is happily playing with his toys as usual. However, he now avoids the pool at all costs, even after the snow has melted. While many call Tatum a hero, she says she did what any dog lover would do. And she will do the same to any dog that is in danger.

Tatum doesn’t have a roof for the pool as she said they are open year round. The pipe that prevented the pool from freezing had broken not long before this horrible situation. Now, the family has released the video as a cautionary tale for other dog parents.
