UPS driver finds woman’s missing dog just in time for Christmas
Christmas came early for a Tennessee woman, whose missing dog was hand delivered by a UPS driver who found the puppy along his route. The driver is now being applauded for stopping to catch a lost dog during one of his busiest days of the year.
Based on FOX business, UPS driver Darrell Slack was busy delivering Christmas goods when a woman living on his route asked him to look after her missing dog, Pete.
A 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier (described by his owner as a “runner”) has just escaped from their gated porch. Now, Pete’s owners fear the dog will get lost in the 500-acre woods that surround their home in Turtletown, Tennessee.
“In that forest there are coyotes, there are bears,” said Pete’s owner, Paula Odom FOX business. “I’m afraid Pete isn’t a mountain wise man and wouldn’t know what to do in such a situation and the chances of us seeing him again are slim.”
Perry, Paula’s husband, searched for the dog but to no avail. Paula desperately hopes the friendly UPS driver – who carries a box of dog food in his truck to befriend the neighbor’s canines – has more luck.
Darrell is equally determined to find Paula’s precious goods. “She said to me, ‘Our dog’s gone,’ and he escaped from the front porch,” recounts the 29-year UPS driver. FOX business. “I just told her, ‘We’ll find him.'”
Later that day, Darrell was delivering packages when he saw the light of Pete’s red belt. The driver calls Pete and offers him cookies, which encourages the dog to come close. While Pete was eating, Darrell shoved him into the truck.
When Darrell handed Pete over to his owner, Paula could hardly believe her eyes. “When he held Pete in his arms, I almost fell,” speak Paula, who considers Pete’s safe return to be the best package she’s ever received. “I am overjoyed. It comes out loud – especially right now on Christmas. ”
