Update Toyota HiLux 2023: Rogue model is softened, more dynamic

Toyota Australia preparing to make some changes and upgrade HiLux for the 2023 model year.

These specification changes and upgrades will take effect on HiLux model to local from fourth quarter of 2022the company said.

A major highlight of this 2023 HiLux update is the “significant upgrade in capability and performance” to the flagship Rogue 4×4 dual-cab model – presumably made with the Ranger Raptor in mind. are in great demand by Ford.

The updated, finished Aussie Rouge will get increased front and rear rails by about 140mm, as well as a tank height of about 20mm. Both are said to support both off-road and off-road performance.

To accommodate the HiLux Rogue’s increased racetrack, Toyota engineers overhauled the existing suspension by lengthening the front suspension swingarm and front stabilizer bar length. They also adjusted the damping angle to improve its efficiency.

At the rear, the axle length has been extended and the dampers have been moved further towards the wheels.

Also for the first time on the HiLux, there is a rear stabilizer bar fitted to the Rogue, which is claimed to “enhance cornering stability and driving comfort”.

As a result of all these suspension changes to the updated HiLux Rogue, Toyota says roll stiffness has been “enhanced by 20%”.

The upgrades don’t stop there as a new ventilated rear disc brake replaces the current drum brake for better braking performance.

The front disc brake system has also been upgraded to a 17-inch diameter type, 1 inch larger than the one on the current Rogue.

Behind the upgrades exclusive to the flagship HiLux Rogue are wider wheel arches and fenders to accommodate wider track widths.

In addition to the upgraded HiLux Rogue, Toyota has announced that it will be bringing a host of other updates to many of the core variants of the HiLux lineup.

Additional SR and dual-cab cab models will receive new 17-inch black alloy wheels, instead of the current 17-inch steel wheels, as well as body-color door handles.

The SR5 dual pick-up truck has important active safety equipment such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. These safety features will also be standard on the upgraded Rogue.

Other new features the SR5 dual cab gets as part of this update will include a surround view camera, as well as puddle lights. The heated rearview mirror has been removed.

On SR5 models with automatic transmission and above, the steering column lock has been replaced with an ID Box anti-theft immobilizer that is said to add additional safety for owners to start the vehicle with the key.

Toyota hasn’t detailed any updates to the entry-level and fleet-friendly Workmate trim levels.

While Toyota has not confirmed any price changes for the HiLux range, expect prices to increase as spec updates are available across the majority of the lineup.

One final announcement Toyota made about the HiLux is that it is currently working on a “new top-of-the-line variant” that will replace the HiLux Rugged X.

This model will probably go against baja-ready Ford Ranger Raptoris expected to arrive locally in August.

Toyota says details on this new terrain-focused variant, including a launch date, will be announced in due course.
