Ulysse Nardin adds three new models Marine Torpileur collection, a series of marine-themed timepieces designed to echo the 19th-century marine chronometers.

Ulysse Nardin has a long history in the construction of Marine Chronometers for ships.

The new models retain the collection’s bezel, long hands, and Roman numeral hour markers, but each also highlights a specific aspect of Ulysse Nardin’s technical or artistic expertise.

Torpilleur Marine Dual Time

The first model of the new trilogy adds Ulysse Nardin’s innovative dual time display to the Marine Torpilleur collection. Matching the domestic caliber UN-334 with a silicon escapement wheel, anchor and balance spring, the new watch adds an instant-change GMT function, dual pushers to the lineup in one model 44mm steel case with sunbeam Blue dial with satin finish.

Originally developed by Ludwig Oechslin in 1994, the dual time function was one of the first to allow an instant change, plus or minus of the GMT hand, actuated by the use of one of the two buttons. click. While the main time display on the new Marine Torpilleur Dual Time operates continuously at the aperture at 9 o’clock, the wearer can quickly move the hour hand forward or backward to display the local time with using the “+” and “-” pushers at 8 o’clock and 10 o’clock. Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon Grand Feu

Originally launched last year as a limited edition with a black Grand Feu enamel dial, the Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon is now offered in unlimited production with a white Grand Feu enamel dial.

This watch highlights the work of the artisans at Donzé Cadrans, Ulysse Nardin’s own watch dialing establishment. Duration Grand Feu meanbig fire’ and refers to the melting of enamel powder in the oven when creating the dial finish.

Ulysse Nardin manufactures all its own dials at the Donzé Cadrans dial facility.

On this enamel dial, Ulysse Nardin matches the watch’s power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and the tourbillon aperture of the same name directly on the enlarged milky white dial at 6 o’clock.

Ulysse Nardin’s automatic caliber UN-128 powers the flying tourbillon with a constant escapement, fitted with a flying silicon anchor. You may recall that in 2015 Ulysse Nardin won Tourbillon Watch Award in GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) with this patented system.

Marine Torpileur Moonphase in rose gold

Ulysse Nardin launched its first Marine Torpilleur Moonphase model in 2021 with a stainless steel case and blue or white dial as a limited edition of 300 pieces each. This year, the watch maker added this watch to its permanent collection, but now in a more luxurious 42 mm rose gold case.

The inside of the Ulysse Nardin matches its automatic UN-119 caliber with a silicon balance spring, a DiamonSil escapement wheel and an anchor. DiamonSil refers to the layer of man-made diamonds that Ulysse Nardin put on the escape wheel and silicon anchor. This coating improves resistance to magnetism, friction and impact.

Once again, we see the power reserve display at 12 o’clock balanced across the dial layout with small moon and seconds indices at 6 o’clock. Note that the silver moon image on the disc contrasts elegantly with the blue PVD sky around it. Ulysse Nardin offers the watch a dark blue alligator leather strap with a rose gold folding clasp.
