Tyler Perry sat down with AARP Magazine and talked about his upbringing and overcoming challenges. But, perhaps, one of the biggest takeaways from the interview was that he paid Cicely Tyson $1,000,000 for one business day.
The playwright talks about his love for Cicely Tyson. The producer of “Acrimony” shared that he took care of the actress for “the last 15 years of her life”.
The 52-year-old also claims that he paid her a substantial amount for her role in “Why Did I Get Married.”
I want to make sure she knows that there are people who appreciate her. So she did a day’s work on my 2007 film Why am I getting married? I paid her a million dollars. I love working with her.
He also shared:
She is a proud woman, and the only reason I mention this is because she wrote it in her book. This woman has done a lot of amazing things, but she’s not well compensated for it. She earned $6,000 for sound person, You know? I want to make sure she knows that there are people who appreciate her.
Perry said it felt good to provide Tyson with “security in the last years of her life.”
As you know, Cicely Tyson has been in the acting business for 60 years. She starred in several Tyler Perry projects, including “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, “Why Am I Married?” “Why am I getting married too?”
The legendary actress passed away at the age of 96 in 2021.
