  • 🎧 “Trump’s tendency to veer between topics and to spew misinformation and conspiracy theories is quite remarkable,” NPR’s Tamara Keith reports To The Top. In response to questions about why he asked Republicans to scrap a bipartisan deal to beef up border security, Trump bragged about the crowds at his rallies, claiming Harris bussed people to her rallies and said we were headed for World War III before said immigrants were destroying the country. He also virtually accused Harris of being responsible for his assassination and claimed he won the 2020 election. Harris responded to the election denial by saying it was a problem when someone who wants to be president is confused about the facts. Harris’ campaign said the debate was great and they look forward to another debate in October. Trump commented that the debate was unfair.

The House will vote today on an opening motion from House Republicans that would kickstart negotiations. The partisan bill is facing opposition from Democrats and some Republicans.

  • 🎧 NPR’s Claudia Grisales said Trump weighed in on the topic yesterday, saying, Republicans should not agree to anything unless it is part of a temporary funding plan. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv today for a joint visit with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The trip came hours after a presidential debate, where the candidates took starkly different positions on what to do about Ukraine, which wants the United States to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons supplied by the United States to strike military targets in Russia.

  • 🎧 There appears to be some momentum to lift restrictions, especially after Blinken and Lammy revealed that Iran has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles, NPR’s Joanna Kakissis reports. Ukraine says the use of these long-range weapons is The best way to stop the Russian army from advancing on Ukrainian soil and killing people in its cities. Ukrainians watched last night’s debate. Food production and transportation account for up to one-third of the annual climate-changing emissions of a typical U.S. household. It is estimated that 30% of the food produced domestically is wasted. When it ends up in landfills, rotting food produces methane—a powerful gas that warms the Earth. Reducing waste and reducing transportation can have a significant impact on the pollution that causes climate change. A better solution might be: home delivery.. Because with delivery vehicles, when the driver delivers your groceries, they often also deliver to their neighbors on the same trip.

But for others, especially those born after the 9/11 attacks, those who have too young to rememberThose who live far away or have other things to worry about — the question can sound like a disguised scolding. How many sad days? How many tragedies must one hold on to?

We Americans do not have good memories. We often think other people’s memories are too long. We wonder why their old grudges are so salient today. But sometimes it seems our memories are too short; we don’t understand why pain persists or why some people just can’t “get over it” — whatever “it” is.

Perhaps there is a middle ground. On a day like 9/11, maybe we can take a moment to notice those around us and ask, “Is this a special day for you? Would you like to talk about it? Did you lose someone? Tell me about that person.”

It never hurts to ask and listen.
