Trump Claims He Never Gave “Red-Haired Weirdo” Classified Info About Nuclear Subs (Despite Reports to the Contrary)

Earlier this month, ABC News and The New York Times reported that, shortly after he left office, Donald Trump revealed potentially sensitive, classified information about the US’s nuclear submarines to an Australian billionaire named Anthony Pratt. That included, per ABC, “the supposed exact number of nuclear warheads they routinely carry, and exactly how close they supposedly can get to a Russian submarine without being detected.” Does this sound exactly like something the ex-president would do? Considering he reportedly doled out “highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador” in the Oval Office *while he was president—*and is on tape talking about a classified document concerning a potential attack on Iran that he kept after leaving the White House—one might say yes!

But naturally, the former guy has insisted nothing could be further from the truth. Responding to the reports, Trump on Sunday angrily claimed, “The Failing New York Times story, leaked by Deranged Jack Smith and the Biden ‘Political Opponent Abuser’ DOJ, about a red haired weirdo from Australia, named Anthony Pratt, is Fake News.” He added: “I never spoke to him about Submarines, but I did speak to him about creating jobs in Ohio and Pennsylvania, because that’s what I’m all about.”

According to the Times, after Trump shared the sensitive information, Pratt, who made his fortune in cardboard, “went on to share the sensitive details about the submarines with several others.” In fact, ABC reported that, according to sources familiar with the matter, Pratt was heard relaying the information to someone “within minutes” of hearing it from Trump. A former Mar-a-Lago employee reportedly told investigators he was “bothered” and “shocked” to hear Trump had revealed such details to a non-US citizen. Federal prosecutors on Smith’s team are said to have interviewed Pratt about the alleged disclosures, making him, per the Times, one of “more than 80 people whom prosecutors have identified as possible witnesses who could testify against Mr. Trump at the classified documents trial, which is scheduled to start in May in Federal District Court in Fort Pierce, Florida.”

The classified-documents case is obviously far from the only legal peril faced by Trump. He was also indicted earlier this year by Smith for attempting to overturn the election; by the Manhattan district attorney for hush money deals paid before the 2016 election; and by the Fulton County district attorney for trying to overturn the results of the election in Georgia. He has pleaded not guilty on all charges.
