Toyota GR Corolla 2023 launched in Malaysia – AWD 6MT hot hatch; 1.6T 3-cylinder, 300 hp, 370 Nm; RM355k
Perhaps the most interesting of the five GR-branded vehicles that UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) will hit the market today is the Toyota GR Corolla. Three of the cars are variants of the current model and one is a new generation (GR86), but GR Corolla is a new producta hot hatchback wearing a badge that not many people would think of when thinking of performance – Corolla.
But this ugly-looking five-door C-segment hatchback packs a lot of performance and is well priced RM355,000. Under the hood with bulging vents is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 300 hp and 370 Nm of torque made between 3,000 and 5,550 rpm. 0-100 km/h is done in 5.3 seconds and top speed is 230 km/h.
It’s the same G16E-GTS triple pot found in the smaller version Yaris GR – already the most powerful three-cylinder engine produced – but here it makes 39 PS and 10 Nm more power Our European spec GR Yaris, “to provide the same high level of performance as the larger model”. Seven airbags and the full Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assist technologies – which use the monocular camera and radar – are included. The local toolkit equipped by UMWT includes a telecommunications system (car tracking), dash cam and solar/security film.
Available in four colors – Precious Metal (gray), Super White, Emotional Red and Black. Yes, just black. Once again, a complete imported Toyota GR Corolla from Japan costs RM355,000 on the road before insurance. So this or FL5 Citizens CHEAP?
