Tiger Woods praises Lebron James, says ‘never’ thought Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record would be broken
LeBron James has overtaken Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time top scorer and reactions have poured in from all over the sports world. Few athletes in sports can appreciate the kind of longevity and endurance needed to break that kind of record more than Tiger Woods.
Before the Genesis Invitational 2023, Woods was asked about James breaking Abdul-Jabbar’s record. Woods said he remembers watching Abdul-Jabbar light up NBA, and he thinks the record will never be top. Woods also said he admires James’ ability to play at a high level so far in his career.
“What he achieved was absolutely incredible for its durability, consistency and longevity,” says Woods. “I grew up watching Kareem [in Los Angeles]. Never seen him play in Milwaukee, but he’s the ‘Cap’. That’s all I remember, Showtime Lakers and watching Cap run down there with goggles and skyhook.
“That record, I never thought would be surpassed. What LeBron is doing, and the number of minutes he plays, no one has ever done at that age. Can only play in all 5 positions. that has never been done before at that time granted in this long time.”
When asked to compare it to the all-time NBA scoring record in golf, Woods pointed to the all-time PGA Tour winning record he and Sam Snead share with 82. Woods says that’s the kind of record that requires consistency and longevity to achieve. break.
