The top four finishers in the Listed Angels Flight Stakes on April 7 settled for graded company at Santa Anita Park May 5 in the Senorita Stakes (G3T). Both stakes place 3-year-old fillies head-to-head along Santa Anita’s hillside turf course in about 6 1/2 lengths.
Phil D’Amato is trained Laulne defeat Richard Mandella-trained Charming nose in Flight of the Angels. A group winner in his native France, Laulne traveled to the United States for last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), but finished 10th after having to settle early. Before Angels Flight, Alluring broke his maiden in his second start and finished third in the February 11 Sweet Life Stakes, but was dropped to 10th for interference.
The girl of my dreams And Antiphona placed third and fourth respectively in Angel’s Flight. Trained by Doug O’Neill, Girl of My Dreams needed six starts to break her maiden and then ran two poles ahead of Flight of the Angels. Antifona, now trained by John Sadler after starting his career in his native France, this year won the Sweet Life Stakes and finished third in the March 10 China Doll Stakes to Angels Flight.
Of the four other Senorita participants, Flattery is the 2023 bet winner, Intuitive finished fourth and was placed third in The Sweet Life, Shamrockin was two for three and she made her equity debut, and mischief (also trained by Mandella) is taking his first win in his third start.
