There is a unique scene here Bavarian countryside twice per year: A nightclub train. The Techno train, operated by Nuremberg nightclub Haus 33, runs a 224km non-stop route in Germany from Nuremberg to Würzburg and back. Yes, non-stop. While the noisy journey lasts about seven hours, there are still opportunities to rest. A recent story in guardian highlights the train’s appeal and why the experience is fun:
Traffic regulations stipulate that each passenger must have at least one seat and I found one in the relaxation area. It’s one of the few carriages that doesn’t have ceiling-mounted speakers and you can’t smoke. I chatted with Vincent, a smiling 22-year-old with a shaved head and mirrored sunglasses, who said he was part of the techno scene in Nuremberg. I ask for advice as a 40 year old Techno Train virgin. “Don’t stay in one place – move on and off the train,” says Vincent. His friend Benedict, who has a deep voice and little beard, added: “Go to the bathroom early. They feel… uncomfortable.”
Aside from the overused toilets, the whole adventure seemed pretty well organized. The Techno train is 12 cars long but only three cars roll on a dance floor with lights, fog machines, speakers and a DJ. The feature also features red-coated “awareness officers” who keep an eye out for bad behavior and rolled-up banknotes. “If we see two people go to the bathroom and stay there for half an hour, We know something’s up,” someone said.
