Australia’s oldest Holden Museum closed on April 14, 2024, and now the diverse car collection housed there is being auctioned off.
Auctioneers from Burns & Co will display vehicles and memorabilia from the National Holden Motor Museum’s collection this weekend, May 18-19.
The auction will be held at the now closed museum at 7-11 Warren Street, Echuca.
On Saturday, from 8 a.m., lots from 1 to 600 will be auctioned. There is a wide variety of items available, including everything from dealer signs and accessories, original factory production to engines and transmissions.
On Sunday, from 9am, lots 601 to 731 will be auctioned and these are the big ticket items: the cars themselves.
These include highly collectible Holdens such as the HQ Sandman and GTS 350 Coupe and the 48-215, the first Holden car.
There are also one of three HJ Statesman Coupes ever built (pictured above), as well as an HSV SV90 Statesman (pictured below).
Burns & Co said there will be no opportunity to start or attempt to start any vehicles, but many vehicles are being offered without reserve.

The National Holden Motor Museum first opened in Bayswater, Victoria in 1984, moving to Echuca in 1993. It bills itself as the longest continuously operating single-production museum in Australia.
Owners Tony and Mark Galea decided to put it up for sale because they said running the museum has affected their personal lives because it is open daily and is located in a tourist town.
Unable to find a buyer, the men decided to auction off the museum’s belongings.
