This Australian Company Will Sell You GMC Pickups, Even If General Motors Won’t

GM Specialty Vehicles says It will only sell GMC SUVs here.So if you want to own one of this brand’s Sierra pickups, you’ll need to find a conversion company.

Australian-owned Autogroup International is doing its bit by bringing the off-road-focused GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4X to shore.

Improved by American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) and converted to right-hand drive by Autogroup International, the GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4X doesn’t have much competition.

Under the hood, a 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8 produces 346kW of power and 1322Nm of torque. For petrol enthusiasts, there’s also the option of a 6.6-litre V8.

Combined with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, the vehicle is capable of towing more than 8,000kg and a payload exceeding 1,100kg.

This truck is more than just raw power. It’s built to conquer and features a host of upgrades like a factory-installed 1.5-inch lift, Rancho shocks, Multimatic DSSV dampers, mud flaps, heavy-duty control arms, and steel bumpers.

Inside, you’ll find a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 15-inch head-up display with a terrain inclinometer.

Other standard equipment includes heated and ventilated Obsidian Rush full-grain leather seats, along with a wireless phone charger and a 12-speaker Bose sound system with Kicker sound in the rear doors.

Active safety and driver assistance technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and a surround-view camera, which is especially useful when driving off-road.

Autogroup International, based in Sri Lanka, completed the conversion to right-hand drive and ensured the truck met strict safety and legal standards.

This 100% Australian owned family business, with over 30 years experience, has converted over 4500 vehicles including recent Lincoln Guide And GMC Hummer EValso on the water and heading to Australia.

The Sierra 2500 is mechanically related to the Chevrolet Silverado HD sold in GM’s dedicated showrooms. Although GMCs were once just rebadged Chevys, today most of the brand’s models are significantly different both inside and out from their bowtie-badged counterparts.

In the Australian market, the AT4X will compete with other American pickup trucks such as not only the Silverado HD but also the Ram 2500Another vehicle converted to right-hand drive locally by Walkinshaw.

However, the GMC stands out with its superior towing capacity, luxurious interior, and features like Multimatic DSSV dampers.

American Vehicle Sales in Melbourne distributes the Sierra and offers a five-year ADR compliant truck warranty.

Right-hand drive models are now available and will be on Australian roads soon.

What do you think, is this just another overpriced, oversized toy hauler, or are Aussies serious about safe hauling and willing to pay the money to prove it? Let us know in the comments below.
