Some car brands have held the top spot in predicted reliability rankings for years and while new car has become much more durable than it was a few years ago, many of these top brands continue to dominate. iSeeCars We recently looked at which vehicles and brands are likely to reach 250,000 miles or more, but many of the top brands won’t surprise you.
Toyota was the highest-ranked brand, with 17 percent overall chance of vehicles reaching 250,000 miles. The top seven brands:
- Toyota: 17%
- Honda: 13/6%
- Ram: 11.5%
- GMC: 11.4%
- Chevrolet Cars: 10.5%
- Lexus Cars: 9.7%
- Ford cars: 9.5%
The average car on U.S. roads has an 8.6 percent chance of lasting a quarter million miles or more, so they outperform the rest of the crop by a significant margin. Looking at the list, it might be a little strange to see Ram, GMC, Chevy Carsand Ford have been joined by brands like Honda and Toyota, but there’s a good reason for their success. The big three American brands sell a lot of truckscored high in iSeeCars‘ analysis. It’s worth noting that this ranking does not include heavy-duty models, which shows the strong potential stand the test of time.
The Ram 3500 has a 42.6 percent chance of surviving 250,000 miles, followed by Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, GMC Sierra 2500HDAnd Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. Apart from the fact that heavy truck Built to withstand abuse, some pickup trucks have a long lifespan that can be attributed to the fleet management and regular maintenance that commercial vehicle owners tend to adhere to.
A breakdown of other vehicle types shows that SUVs take up 16 of the top 30 spots. The list also accounts for eight Pickup truck and four sedan. iSeeCars used data from more than 402 million vehicles for the study. The study analyzed odometer data at each age year and used a proprietary model based on those mileage figures to estimate the age of vehicles and brands.
