“The whole point is to charge us more money” – Does that work?

Essay by Eric Worrall

Farage leads Reform UK, a party that has recently pulled ahead of the ruling Conservative Party in the polls and has a real chance of becoming the second largest party in the next British parliament.

From the transcript of the video;

Alan Miller (Interviewer): So we’re at the Rev’d up Cafe and we’re joined by Nigel Farage.

Alan Miller (Interviewer): Hello Nigel, nice to be here uh a lot of cyclists here, they’re very interested, a million and a half votes across the UK, many in your constituency where you’re standing. We’ve been talking to people this morning and you’ve had a lot of support here. Some people want to know right from the start, what is your view on the ICE ban on bikes and cars in the UK?

Nigel Farage: Yes, I have an opinion on this because, as a member of the European Parliament, of course the motorcycle regulations come from Brussels. And so I’ve met you know the Etc Motorcycle Action Group many times over the years. Now of course you’d think with Brexit, now that we’re in control, it would be less threatening, but it’s not and that’s because the Whole Net Zero agenda is being pursued.

Boris [Prime Minister Boris Johnson] was completely devoted to it. Labor is still on that path. Tories [British Conservatives] now saying we won’t do it all tomorrow but we wait until the day after tomorrow.

Honestly, the whole point is to charge us more money. The whole point is about controlling our lives and behavior, and environmentally it makes almost no difference.

So, you know, cyclists want the freedom to ride and pursue their interests. They should be allowed to do that without interference. I’m really worried that with the Labor government we’re going to have, I mean think about the rules, think about all the different things that have been done in low-traffic areas, etc. I suspect for cyclists it will be difficult under a Starmer government [Keir Starmer, Labour Leader].

And so what you need is a voice of protest to stand up and say you know please leave these people alone. I did that when I was a Member of Parliament. I will do that when I am a Member of Parliament. There’s another small aspect to this that people probably haven’t thought about, which is that the European Court of Human Rights recently ruled that Switzerland must comply with its Net Zero law. So the court that I complained to about the border issue, who stays and who doesn’t is actually also involved in this issue, and you know, I’m very clear about whether we should leave the ECR, so you know, I think cyclists have a right to be concerned, a right to be worried.

And I’m not just standing here because I’m running in a few weeks, I’ve got a long history of Protecting individual freedoms, and ultimately that’s what Allan is all about, isn’t it.

It’s about individual choices, about people making their own decisions and living their own lives.

As you know, we have 37 million car drivers in the UK. I joined while you were performing. I’m talking about what you just mentioned, ULEZ [Ultra Low Emission Zone]LTN [Low Traffic Neighbourhoods]many are concerned about the lack of openness and scrutiny from Net Zero’s perspective.”

Alan Miller (Interviewer): Just remind us what Reform is saying, what are you saying about it if you are elected?

Nigel Farage: Yeah, I mean, you know what I mean the Labor Party is talking about decarbonizing the grid by 2030. It’s not possible and it’s going to cost a lot of money, and of course who pays for that, at the bottom in society, pay most of their money for fuel to heat their homes and do all the cooking. All those things. The Conservatives are now saying 2035.

What we are saying is that Whole Net Zero needs a complete rethink. We produce less than 1% of the world’s CO2. China is building about 80 new coal-fired power plants every year.

And the other thing about this is, you know, of course I want us to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The answer to that is above all nuclear energy if you really want to create a reliable low carb source of energy which I think you know to me nuclear is going to be the right way forward.

But no matter what, you know, I will always stand up for individual freedom against the state and it’s been terrible under the Conservatives.

It will get worse under Labour, but we must all accept that they have won the next election. After that, the question was who would speak out against it, and I stood up and said that I had a record.

I fought the European Union, I fought the banks, I fought many others over the years and I will do the same in Parliament.

If you review my work, you’ll know I’m a big fan of Nigel Farage. I once had the honor of speaking to Nigel Farage live over a beer for 20 minutes – he’s exactly the same person he appears on video.

Farage has been absolutely consistent when it comes to protecting ordinary people from political attacks on personal freedoms, including senseless and painful increases in the cost of living due to Trump’s policies. Nut Zero causes.

Who can forget the enormous outrage and hilarity that Nigel Farage caused, when he appointed Lord Monckton as his climate spokesman, back in UKIP?

I don’t think restoring Net Zero is Nigel Farage’s top priority. But I think you can tell from the interview above that pushing back against green attacks on the cost of living is important to him.

As Nigel Farage has pointed out, it is now almost impossible for Labor to lose – they have an overwhelming lead in the polls. But voting for Reform sends a message, the only kind of message that some politicians care about. The more votes Farage’s reforms receive, the more timid Labor will be in imposing larger green energy price increases on a long-suffering British public.
