The Ministry of Transport has set up a task force to deal with the large backlog of candidates waiting for their driving test. Emerging last yearthe problem is still unresolved.

Transport Secretary Anthony Loke says the backlog is caused by the closure of driving academies in the country during the Covid-19 pandemic three years ago, initially due to the implementation of the first motion control order (MCO) in March 2020. During that time, driving courses were stopped and only Only essential service industries are allowed to operate.

Driving Academy is finally allowed to operate from June 2020but one Monday And Third MCOas well as a full motion control command (FMCO) in 2021, operations are again halted for another extended period of time.

With an estimated 600,000 applicants taking driving courses and testing at driving academies every year, Loke said this has resulted in a large backlog. “This doesn’t mean they (applicants) can’t get a driver’s license, but the waiting time is very long,” he said.

Mr. Loke said the task force, headed by the road transport department (JPJ), would seek to overcome the backlog and speed up the process of obtaining a driver’s license, Bernama report.
