Although the first generation Mercedes-AMG GT Using a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, the AMG GT3 racing version continues to use a naturally aspirated engine 6.2-liter V8 engine used by its predecessor, the SLS. As Mercedes prepares to launch Next Generation GT race car, will have turbocharged engines, AMG has revealed the new GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport model at Monterey Car Week.

This year marks 130 years of the Mercedes brand in motorsport, when a Daimler-powered car won first car race ever, a race from city to city 126 km long From Paris to RouenMercedes’ massive stand at Pebble Beach featured all sorts of iconic cars, including the 1952 300SL racer that inspired the design of the GT3 130Y.

Its silver and blue paint scheme is reminiscent of the 300SLs that won the Carrera Panamericana and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with simple racing gum on the sides bearing the number 130. It also has AMG badges on the roof and side skirts, unique 18-inch wheels in a similar design to the new GT, and plenty of carbon fiber. The interior is even nicer, with white and blue plaid fabric seats with brown leather headrests, an aluminum steering wheel with walnut grips, and special badging and graphics.

Because the 130Y isn’t restricted to racing, it’s even faster than actual GT3 race cars. With no air restrictors or muffled exhausts, the 6.2-liter V8 produces 671 horsepower, an increase of over 100 horsepower, and the six-speed sequential gearbox has revised gear ratios. Downforce is up 15 percent thanks to new air intakes and flaps, a redesigned underbody and diffuser, a lower splitter, and a larger rear wing. The 130Y also features a Drag Reduction System (DRS) inspired by the DTM and Formula 1, allowing for a top speed of over 196 mph.

Although not certified for any specific series, the 130Y still has all the safety features and systems of the regular GT3, such as a carbon fiber safety cell, five-point harnesses, fire suppression system and emergency hatch. Instead of the steel brake discs found on the GT3 race car, the 130Y has carbon ceramic brakes, making it much lighter. Earlier this year, AMG factory driver Jules Gounon lapped Australia’s Mount Panorama circuit in 1 minute, 56.605 seconds, breaking the GT track record of 2.074 seconds.

Mercedes will only sell 13 Edition 130Y GT3s worldwide, with prices starting at around $1.1 million. Customers will also receive a unique car cover, a 1:8 scale model, a custom Bell helmet, matching Puma racing gear, a matching seat bag, and a certificate of authenticity.
