JetBlue said Monday that it has terminated its merger agreement with Spirit Airlines, ending the $3.8 billion acquisition nearly seven weeks after the acquisition was completed. blocked by a federal judge.
They said the two airlines have reached an agreement to terminate the merger, in which JetBlue must pay Spirit a $69 million breakup fee.
Even though the airlines have previously said that they planned to appeal Court order blocks merger, they said Monday that they anticipated that legal obstacles would prevent them from ending the merger before the July deadline.
