The Gunk will premiere on December 16
The Gunk is a third-person action adventure from the makers of SteamWorld, set on a planet covered in a thick layer of glue. You raise it up. It was announced last year, and we now know it will launch on PC via Xbox Game Pass on December 16.
The release date was announced during tonight’s Thunderful World live stream, which was filled with announcements from publisher and developer Thunderful Games. The actual live stream, presented by Mark Hamill and Full view can be found here, which features some new Gunk footage narrated by the main character’s voice actress. It started at 26:26 . mark.
However, Thunderful didn’t provide that footage separately, so here’s a trailer from this year’s Xbox event at Gamescom:
It’s a single-player game, but The Gunk is about two friends exploring an alien planet “thwarted by a spoiled monster”. You will raise it, but also craft items as you work to survive and seem to revive the planet in some way.
Honestly, I feel like I don’t know much about The Gunk’s gameplay, other than walking around and vacuuming, but Image & Form has benefited from some excellent, genre-bending SteamWorld games.
More SteamWorlds coming soon. Thunder announced SteamWorld Headhunter at tonight’s live stream, a 3D action adventure like The Gunk, but cooperative. Interesting stuff.
Gunk is an Xbox console exclusive, but it will be available on PC on launch day via Xbox Game Pass. It’s not available on Steam or any other digital store yet.
