The far-future Lincoln Model L100 Concept EV looks very fancy but separates from the driving feeling
Ford’s Lincoln luxury brand is not known for its radical automotive designs. But the Model L100 Concept – named after the 1922 Model L and to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary – shows that the brand is thinking about a dramatically different luxury vehicle for the future.
The Lincoln Model L100 Concept, revealed in collaboration with Monterey Car Week on Thursday, is able to distinguish between driver-centric and social seating configurations, despite the “chess-inspired controller” from the jewel” replaces the traditional steering wheel, as autonomous driving takes precedence.

It uses a combination of metallic paint and matte acrylic instead of chrome, with a “satin digital ceramic coating” to transition from a warm, subdued white to a cool blue. The wheel cover houses the sensors and battery life notifications. The interior doesn’t use animal-derived materials, and the “digital floor” can help elevate the mood of the occupants.

Perhaps most notably, the L100 Concept Model opens like a flower – or out of the shell, you can choose loaded clichés – with side doors and a roof both mounted at the rear of the vehicle. Before you write all this out as a mere exercise for designers, remember, far-fetched technology aside, this is how a brand tests (and refines) style. Where is it headed in the future? The front-end styling looks a bit like Lincoln Star electric SUV concept premiered earlier this year; and innovative door/roof/frenk opening methods are also found there.
