The far-future Lincoln Model L100 Concept EV looks very fancy but separates from the driving feeling

Ford’s Lincoln luxury brand is not known for its radical automotive designs. But the Model L100 Concept – named after the 1922 Model L and to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary – shows that the brand is thinking about a dramatically different luxury vehicle for the future.

The Lincoln Model L100 Concept, revealed in collaboration with Monterey Car Week on Thursday, is able to distinguish between driver-centric and social seating configurations, despite the “chess-inspired controller” from the jewel” replaces the traditional steering wheel, as autonomous driving takes precedence.

Driving what? The people inside could do something else.

It uses a combination of metallic paint and matte acrylic instead of chrome, with a “satin digital ceramic coating” to transition from a warm, subdued white to a cool blue. Perhaps most notably, the L100 Concept Model opens like a flower – or out of the shell, you can choose loaded clichés – with side doors and a roof both mounted at the rear of the vehicle. All are open to welcome, as part of the so-called Lincoln Embrace, perhaps in a future world with all the space to do so and the parking lot itself where the knock is impossible thing to happen.

Lincoln didn’t provide any technical details — not even dimensions — but it says that the Model L100 Concept uses “next-generation battery and pack technology that will deliver game-changing power density.” play and allow for structural integration, effectively by treating the whole car as a system.” The car appears to be set low, possibly simply a result of its enormous length and wheels. appear in your mind.

So far, Lincoln has been treading cautiously toward the tram. Its first few EVs, one of them project with Rivian and that one “elegant” EVs based on Mach-E, both of which were cancelled. The brand’s first plug-in model, the Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrid, was a more niche performance version and was followed by a more widely available version. Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring PHEV. Brand now has plans full line of electric SUVsalthough the first of them survived for at least two years.

Before you write all this out as a mere exercise for designers, remember, far-fetched technology aside, this is how a brand tests (and refines) style. Where is it headed in the future? The front-end styling looks a bit like Lincoln Star electric SUV concept premiered earlier this year; and innovative door/roof/frenk opening methods are also found there. Is this the kind of Quiet Flight you’ll be climbing?
