The dog befriends the soldiers and then turns up when she recognizes one of them

Soldiers often interact with locals while serving abroad, including animals. Nick Pierzchalsk, a medical pilot in Iraq, met a friendly 1-year-old stray Shepherd who approached him and played with him. Nick and his team fell in love with the dog and named it Airys, a name they felt was an uplifting name for their deployment abroad.

Airy is fed and housed by the crew every day, and she even built her own crib in their hangar. She became a member of the team. Nick’s companions repeatedly urged him to bring her home with him and adopt her after he returned to the United States. He knew he couldn’t let Airys live in the harsh desert environment. He loved her dearly and wanted to give her a great life – running on green grass while happily chasing squirrels.

Nick was able to fulfill his ambition and Airys flew to the United States thanks to SPCA International. Fox 13 News broadcast their incredible reunion live at Tampa International Airport.

Airys’ video shows her reaction when she first saw Nick at the airport. She immediately recognized him and started wagging her tail. What a wonderful moment: best friends reunited after months apart! Airys squealed with delight, and it brought tears to our eyes.
