The BYD electric hot hatch idea becomes a reality with the name Seal 06GT


BYD’s upcoming hot hatchback has been spotted in China and has a new name.

First debuted as the Ocean-M concept at the Beijing Auto Show this early yearthe semi-compact performance car will officially be known as the Seal 06GT.

There’s no word yet on whether the Seal 06GT will be sold in Australia, but it should be capable enough to compete with the MG 4 XPower while discounting it.

In China, the Seal 06GT is estimated to cost between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan, or AU$42,000, for the top dual-motor model.

By comparison, the BYD Seal sedan is priced from 179,800 yuan ($37,130) in China, although it is around 34% more expensive in Australia, starting from $49,888 before on-road costs.

The BYD Seal recently became the brand’s best-selling model in Australia, surpassing its SUV sibling the Atto 3 between January and May.
