The best TV shows you’ve missed in 2021 — and how to watch them
With a lot streaming networks generate too much original content, not to mention imported series that regularly stream on Netflix and more than that, there aren’t enough hours in the day to catch up on every new (or new to you) TV series. But here are five shows you may have missed that are worth your time.
Stath allows apartments
Stath allows apartments is a popular British comedy series (creator/star Jamie Demetriou has won two BAFTA Awards in 2020 — one for Best Actor in a Comedy Show and the other for Series with a Good Screenplay. Best). But it’s less well known in America, it’s a crime against comedy. Demetriou plays Stath, a broker who works for his father’s business and hopes to one day inherit it. Except his job sucks, doesn’t know anything about real estate and doesn’t like people very much either, which makes watching him navigate daily about apartment shows and people complaints. Renting is even funnier. Demetriou is the brother of What do we do in the dark star Natasia Demetriou, who also stars in the series (playing his sister, of course — an aspiring singer and dancer). The third season of the series just premiered on HBO in November.
Hell is bound
First there are Squid fishing game, then come Hell is bound. At the end of November, this Korean drama passed Squid fishing game to become the world’s most popular Netflix series. But that does not matter. What you need to know is that it is directed by Yeon Sang-ho who has the vision behind Train to Busanand it opens with type WTF? That moment will captivate you. It’s a supernatural crime show in which a group of mysterious monsters appear, attack, then disappear – prompting the authorities to find out what the hell happened.
Wellington Paranormal
Before there What do we do in the dark: Drama, had What do we do in the dark: Movie. But in the middle, there is Wellington Paranormal—A New Zealand-produced comedy directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Like WWDITS, it’s a simulation-style production. But this time, it’s shot from the police department’s point of view and features all sorts of strange happenings, like a man being attacked by a “dog in jeans” and a group of zombie cops. The film originally premiered in 2018, but it only got a US release in 2021.
Made for Love
Comedy in the dark For love, the ever-glamorous Cristin Milioti is a committed wife on the run after spending a decade of her life marrying – and being controlled by – her tech billionaire husband. As she tries to reset her life and regain her independence, she doesn’t realize that her husband has implanted a chip in her brain that not only tracks her location, but allows him to follow her. Follow her and read her mind. (Hey, we said dark comedy.)
Resident foreigners
Alan Tudyk stars as Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, the resident physician of a small Colorado town and also an alien who landed on Earth and took the identity of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. Fortunately for Harry, no one seemed to notice the difference…except a local kid who was somehow able to see Harry’s true form.
