General Motors announced Wednesday that the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is now shipping to customers. But it will be a while before other versions of the electric pickup truck arrive at dealerships.
The limited edition launch of the Sierra EV comes with starting price is $99,495 with a destination charge of $1,995—several thousand less than the suggested price when the Sierra EV was previewed for the first time by Green Car Reports in 2022. The model launched EPA range 440 miles also about 10% higher than the original proposal.
Wearing GMC’s top-of-the-line luxury Denali badge, the Edition 1 gets adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and the CrabWalk feature from GMC Hummer EV. The latter distinguishes the GMC from the top-end version. Chevrolet Silverado EV RST 2024. Like their internal combustion engine counterparts, the Sierra EV and Silverado EV are essentially twins, with the main differences being in styling and some features.
2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1
Edition 1 models feature a dual-motor powertrain that produces up to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs, slightly higher than the original suggested 9,500 lbs. A rear-door center aisle—pioneered by GM in the 2000s—allows the truck to swallow objects up to 11 feet long. A front trunk is also included.
With a dual layer battery pack the same is expected 205kwh As the top-of-the-line version of the Hummer EV, the Sierra EV can take full advantage of 350 kW, 800 volt charging connectorAccording to GMC, this allows for up to 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. Two-way charging of up to 10.2 kW allows the Sierra EV to function as a mobile power source.
The truck rides on large 24-inch wheels and has a spacious 16.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Super Cruise highway driving assistance, which can be used when towing a trailer, is also available. GM expects 750,000 compatible U.S. and Canadian roads to be available by the end of 2025.
2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1
The Sierra EV was announced in 2021 and was confirmed at the time to launch in 2023. GMC has hinted that this may not be the “high-volume” electric truck that GM CEO Mary Barra emphasized when describing the Silverado EV, so work truck variants like those offered by Chevy may not be on the cards. GMC has said that an AT4 off-road model is in the works, as well as a lower-cost Elevation model priced around $50,000.
However, those other versions may not be available immediately. Large-scale production of the Sierra EV and Silverado EV at GM’s Orion assembly plant in Michigan has already been postponed to mid-2026—the latest in a series of delays to production of these trucks and GM’s other Ultium electric vehicles.
