After several years, the auto industry finally came together to agree on the equivalent of USB in cars: North American Charging Standard. Basically everyone lined up and agreed to use Tesla as the benchmark because the brand has an impressive network of Supercharge stations. While some brands have adopted this standard, others are facing delays due to reports from Details about PC Mag.

On Tesla Turbocharged website, GM, Volvo and Polestar are listed as the next automakers to adopt the standard; The website says spring 2024 will be available. However, speaking with PC Mag, a Polestar representative said the timeline for adopting the brand has been adjusted; Polestar plans to move to NACS this summer.

GM’s timeline also appears to have been announced. A representative for the automaker told PC Mag that the NACS adapter will be available soon but did not give an exact date.

Sanaz Marbley, GM’s director of global strategic technology communications, said the adapters will be “available for purchase through our GM vehicle brand applications later this year,” suggesting that it could also miss the spring 2024 rollout. She later clarified that the timeline was still spring 2024. GM did not have a “specific date” for when the adapters would launch , but we have about three weeks until we officially enter summer.

If that timeline holds, the Tesla Supercharger should be open to GM electric vehicles within the next few weeks. Tesla’s recent change and mass layoffs in its Supercharge group seems to worry some automakers. While George Bahadue, senior director of site acquisition and business development for commercial charging at Tesla, gave an “all good” comment to PC Mag saying “there is more work to be done,” GM said. know they are monitoring the situation.

That situation could get worse at any time like before reported that Musk wants to lay off more people than initially expected. So if you’re not a Tesla EV owner, I’d keep this situation in mind. It may be some time before you can use the Supercharger.
